Stories can change the way we see the world. They can inspire action, strengthen communities, and give visibility to voices that too often remain unheard. This is the spirit behind “Women for Change – Call for Narration”, the new publication produced within the European project Women Participation for the Future of Europe (W4Future).
Co-funded by the European Union through the CERV – Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme, W4Future brings together organizations from across Europe with a shared goal: to promote women’s participation in democratic life, strengthen gender equality, and encourage women to become active protagonists in shaping the future of Europe. Through storytelling, cultural activities, and civic engagement, the project creates spaces where women’s experiences become a source of dialogue, awareness, and social change.
The book collects the winning entries of the Women for Change Award, an international call for narratives that invited women to share their own stories—or the stories of women who have inspired them. The result is a rich collection of personal narratives, photo essays, videos, illustrations, and collective works from different European countries, all connected by a common thread: the power of women to generate positive change.
The contributions explore themes such as equality, inclusion, migration, resilience, freedom, memory, and civic participation. Around sixty authors and collectives responded to the call in seven different languages, demonstrating how storytelling can become a powerful tool for participation, mutual understanding, and democratic engagement across borders.
All the stories featured in the publication have also been published on StoryAp, where they contribute to a growing European digital archive of women’s stories—a living space where experiences, memories, and visions for the future continue to inspire new conversations and new connections.
The publication has been developed by the European partnership of the W4Future project and coordinated editorially by Andrea Ciantar and Antonio Tiso, with contributions from authors, artists, and storytellers from across Europe.
