The Women4Future event in Berlin aimed to promote the exchange of experiences between European teams and people involved in AWO-Begegnungszentrum projects as well as other associations, initiatives and individuals interested in the topic, with a programme packed with a wide variety of activities open to the public.
The fourth international meeting of the Women4Future project organized by Sozial Label took place on 26 and 27 May 2025 in Berlin with the topic ”Cultural, social and gender identity: Fighting together against multiple discrimination”. It was open to the public and held in collaboration with the AWO-Begegnungszentrum, a community centre that promotes diversity, inclusion and participation in the migrant community since 1972 in Kreuzberg neighbourhood.
The first day, 26 May, began with presentations by each team on the situation in their country, using data, examples of good practices and relevant figures. This was followed by videos of interviews with experts on the subject in Berlin and a panel discussion, where different points of view and reflections on the topic were exchanged.
In the afternoon, we visited the Nachbarschaftshaus Urbanstraße (NHU), a neighbourhood association, which coordinates various projects to empower women and fight against all forms of discrimination.
Afterwards, we took part in a guided tour by „Frauentouren“ (Women’s Tours). Two female guides with migrant backgrounds told us about the history of their neighbourhood, Neuköln, and also shared their personal experiences of multiple discrimination.
On the second day, 27 May, coinciding with Diversity Day in Germany, we invited project managers and staff from AWO-Begegnungszentrum and various Berlin-based organisations dedicated to promoting the rights of social minorities and women’s empowerment to share their experiences with us.
Our local group Women4Future-Berlin also participated, showing some of the results of our workshops and activities carried out since the start of the project, which were exhibited for a month at the AWO-Begegnungszentrum.
This was followed by the opening of the Women4Future travelling exhibition.
Finally, three workshops were offered with the goal of collecting specific proposals to combat certain aspects of multiple discrimination, which will be included in the project’s White Paper.
